Any ideas for a reduced and reused Halloween?

Recycling is often the most prominent of the 3 R’s, so I would like to place emphasis on the other 2, because at this time of year there is a lot of commercial promotion of disposable plastic ‘scary stuff’. Children would get so much more out of making a costume than on that is bought and it would be great to use items that otherwise would simply be rubbish in making them – hence the call for Halloween ideas. Furthermore Halloween has its roots in the end of harvest festival and it would be great to reclaim the cultural terortary…
